Broken Healthcare System

Hello, this is Sukriti Singh and I am currently a sophomore studying Integrative Biology! My focus in this blog post will be regarding health policies and comparative healthcare.

The High Cost of Healthcare in America

Access to quality healthcare should be a basic human right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. However, in the United States, the heighting costs of healthcare prevent many populations from receiving the adequate support and medication they deserve.

A Broken System Leaves Millions Uninsured

According to recent statistics, only 50% of Americans receive healthcare coverage through their employers. This leaves a staggering number of people without any insurance at all, including the unemployed and undocumented individuals. Despite government efforts to provide reduced-cost healthcare options, a substantial portion of the population remains uninsured and lacks access to licensed healthcare professionals.

The Illusion of Employer-Sponsored Coverage

Even for those fortunate enough to have employer-sponsored healthcare plans, the reality is often less promising than it appears. Employers frequently offset the costs of providing these benefits by reducing employees' take-home pay. So while healthcare may seem like a perk of the job, workers are essentially footing the bill themselves through lower salaries.

Corporate Greed Fuels Rising Costs

The root cause of America's healthcare crisis lies in the unchecked greed of large corporations that control the industry. Despite the United States spending more per capita on healthcare than any other nation, these corporations prioritize profits over people's well-being, resulting in inconsistent coverage and financial hardship for millions of Americans.

A Call for Comprehensive Reform

It is clear that the current healthcare system in the United States is fundamentally flawed and in dire need of comprehensive reform. Access to quality healthcare should not be a luxury reserved for the privileged few, but a fundamental right guaranteed to all citizens, regardless of their employment status or financial means. Only by addressing the systemic issues of corporate greed and lack of universal coverage can we ensure that every American receives the necessary medical care they deserve.
