Sports Medicine

My name is Shehbaz and I’m a sophomore double majoring in MCB and Public Health. This is my second semester in BPSHI and I’m an intern for the Health Education Committee. I’m very interested in sports medicine and learning about the science behind sports injuries and how to prevent them. I

At UC Berkeley, I started the SportsMED club to go over popular sports injuries and we do case studies on major professional athlete injuries. Sports are a significant part of many people’s lives growing up and it provides tons of fun memories. Still, most people can remember at least one injury associated with playing sports whether it be a small ankle sprain or bone breaking.

In fact, according to the CDC, sports are one of the leading causes of injury with nearly 9.2 million children aged 0 to 19 years seen in emergency departments per year for sports-related injuries. This is why I think it’s important for people to understand injury prevention techniques and what to do if they do get injured.
